Homemade Muesli bars, can we consider them healthy?
Muesli land seems to be Switzerland but in Germany, there is plenty of Muesli brands with different “declinaisons”. It seems to be a breakfast staple, along with yoghurt or milk.
Since we’ve got Muesli at home, I made these yummy bars, which actually I’ve cut it different shapes except bars because I don’t have my lamington pan with me.
Can you imagine these with one side (or a corner) coated with chocolate? Which bring me to the next question, since Muesly bars contain sugar and butter, can they still rise to the “healthy snack” podium? Because everything else in the recipe is good for us, isn’t? Oh and if you have kids, it’s also a kids friendly recipe. How about that?
I adapted this recipe from AWW.
- 125g butter, chopped coarsely
- 75g firmly packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 120g muesly with raisins and apples, or any of your favourite combination
- 40g shredded coconut
- 75g self-raising flour (or allpurpose flour + 1/4 tsp of baking powder)
- 65g dried cranberries (I replaced by dried cherries)
- ½ cup (70g) slivered almonds (I forgot those)
- A pinch of salt
- 2 tbsp of homemade candied orange peel (optional but wonderful)
- 2 tbsp of seeds (any of your favourite)
Hi Priya! Thanks for comforting me (about the healthy part)..
Looks marvellous,irresistible and yummy..healthy bars!
I've tried them indeed, they're a bit thicker right? I have some recipes I never tried..I should really start making them. They sound easy to make and I like the ingredients..
I love home-made muesli bars – they remind me a bit of flapjacks (the English version, no the American pancake version. Did you ever try those before? I'd definitely recommend them!
Hi Ellen, I guess you are right. At least we knnow what's it.
I've never seen a homemade muesli bar recipe before. I consider anything homemade healthy!
